Government officials, renowned institutions, celebrities and the entire Ghanaian populace are currently in prayers mode asking for God’s protection for footballer Christian Atsu.

The former Black Stars winger is said to have been involved in a devastating earthquake in the European country, killing over 2,000 people so far.

The Hatayspor winger is reportedly trapped under rubbles, along with the club's sporting director Taner Savut, who are all yet to be rescued.

Even though most affected individuals have been rescued, the magnitude 7.8 earthquake is expected to see an increased death toll of over 5,000 by the end of the day.

President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, in a social media post, prayed that the 31-year-old player is found soon and alive.

“We pray that our fellow Ghanaian, Christian Atsu, is found safe and sound," read in part of the President’s post.

Also, former President John Dramani Mahama has called on the entire nation to pray for the soccer talisman to be found alive.

“Let's continue to pray for our brother, Christian Atsu, and his club director. The city of Hayat is in the region affected by the earthquake. Let's continue to pray that God spares their lives,” said the former president in a tweet.

On his part, an aspiring NPP flagbearer, Mr. Alan Kyerematen in a tweet wrote: "My prayers are with Ghanaian International player, Christian Atsu, reportedly among the victims trapped in the earthquake that struck Turkey & Syria."

The GFA on its official Twitter account, wrote: “We pray for Ghana International Christian Atsu and victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.”

The hashtag #Pray for Christian Atsu” has been trending on Twitter since the sad news.
