NOV 25, 2022 LISTEN

Ghana-born striker, Mohammed Muntari has written his name in the history books of Qatar after scoring the country’s first-ever goal in a FIFA World Cup tournament.

The player born in Kumasi naturalised for Qatar in 2014 and has since become an integral part of the national team.

He is part of the squad of the country playing at the 2022 FIFA World Cup currently ongoing in the Middle Eastern country.

Today, although Mohammed Muntari will miss out on a place in the starting eleven of Qatar, he was introduced in the second half to help the national team fight for a comeback win.

Shortly after coming on, the tall striker scored with a powerful header to pull one back to make it to 2-1.

Unfortunately, Qatar did not have the quality to score again to at least earn a draw. A third goal from Ahmadou Bamba Dieng six minutes after Muntari’s goal sealed a 3-1 win for Senegal at the end of the 90 minutes.

Boulaye Dia and Famara Diédhiou netted the other goals for the African champions to earn the maximum three points.

Following his stellar showing today, Mohammed Muntari could be handed a starting role for Qatar in the final Group A match against the Netherlands next week.
