Olivier Giroud was among the top performers for France on Tuesday night when the World champions started off their campaign in this year’s edition of the World Cup.

In a game against Australia in Group D, France started off slowly and trailed after just nine minutes into the first half after Craig Goodwin scored to give the Socceroos the lead.

Despite the setback, France remained confident on the ball and gradually had the opponent back in their half defending in numbers.

In the 27th minute, the pressure from the defending world champions paid off as midfielder Adrien Rabiot equalsied to restore parity to the game.

Now in full control of the game, France went on to take the lead through a strike from AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud just five minutes later.

Yes, Australia will threaten a few times after going behind but the team never really looked like they would score.

In the second half dominated by France, Kylian Mbappe assisted and scored to help his national team cruise to a delightful 4-1 comeback win.

The other goal was scored by Olivier Giroud who has now become France’s joint top scorer with Thierry Henry, both with 51 goals for the French national team.

Barring any injury at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Giroud is being backed to score again to set a new record to become the all-time leading goal scorer for France.

In the next Group D match, the world champions will face off with Denmark.
