2022 World Cup: Youngster Cody Gakpo shines with goal to inspire Netherlands to beat Senegal 2-0

Young forward of Ghanaian descent, Cody Gakpo displayed fine form on Monday evening as he scored an important goal to lead the Netherlands to defeat Senegal 2-0.

The talented PSV forward started for the Dutch national team today in their first game of Group A at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

On the back of a goalless draw from a pulsating first-half encounter, Netherlands finally broke down the strong defense of the Senegalese team in the secod half and scored twice to amass the three points.

First, Cody Gakpo found the back of the net with a wonderful header in the 84th minute before substituted Davy Klaasen equalised in stoppage time to seal a delightful 2-0 win for the Netherlands.

Courtesy of the victory, the Netherlands are joint leaders of the Group A standings at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Ecuador is the other leader after beating Qatar on Sunday in the opening game of the tournament.

Up next for Senegal, the Teranga Lions must fight to beat the host nation in their second match of the mundial on Friday.

On the matchday, the Netherlands will also come up against Ecuador in what should be an exciting encounter.

Meanwhile, Ghana is expected to be in action for the first time at the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Thursday, November 24..

The Black Stars will face off with their Portuguese counterpart and will be hoping to secure a good result to have a good chance of advancing to the knockout stage of the tournament.
