2023 Africa Games: Ghana must consider cancelling All African Competitions - Former President Mahama

Former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has called on the governing NPP government to pull out of hosting the 2023 All Africa Games which is expected to take off in August 2023 in Ghana.

Mr. Mahama speaking at a press conference on Thursday night believes it is not advisable to commit resources to host the multi-sport event with the current economic conditions the country is facing.

Organizers of the competition are already in a race against time to complete the necessary infrastructure for the games before the deadline but have continuously assured the various projects including the Borteyman sports complex will be completed on time.

“If it’s not too late, we can pull out of hosting the Africa Ganes, as it will severely stretch our precarious finances by hundreds of millions of cedis,” Mahama said.

About $140 million has been earmarked for facilities for the games which are expected to host 54 countries that will be competing in 25 sporting disciplines.
