Pro-Vice Chancellor calls for sponsorship

Winneba (C/R), Jan. 29, GNA - Professor Jonas N. Akpanglo-Nartey, Pro-Vice Chancellor of University of Education has appealed to policy makers to provide funding, equipment and sponsorship to enable the nations sportsmen and women organise periodic competitions to upgrade their competence.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor made the call at the close of the 19th edition of the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games at Winneba.

The Games attracted about 900 participants from the six public universities in the nation, the University of Ghana, (UG), University of Cape Coast (UCC), KNUST, UEW, UmaT and UDS.

Prof. Akpanglo-Nartey said 38 years of the uninterrupted and continuous competition of the GUSA Games is no less an achievement, adding that "we can still do better than this, we are ready, we expect the field and the weapons to deliver".

The President of GUSA, Mr A. Denkabe was full of praise for the competitive sprit shown by the participants that ensured its successful completion.

He challenged the students to remain committed to GUSA, adding that new ideas have been devised to be implemented and it now needs funding, equipment and support from both the government and corporate bodies.

Mr Denkabe was grateful to the host, UEW, the Winneba community for gracing the occasion as well as the masqueraders who added special colour to the function.

Dr. J.O. Ammah, Chairman of the local organizing committee described the 9-day competition as highly impressive and keenly contested, adding that there had been tremendous improvement on the part of UEW compared to the previous years.
