The annual bilateral games between the University of Ghana and their counterparts from the University of Ibadan will be staged at the Sports Oval inside the Legon campus from December 14 to 17, 2005.

Officials at the Sports Directorate of UG say they have put in place the necessary logistics for the games. Their teams are currently one month into camping ahead of the games.

Anthony Tetteh-Opai, the Head Coach at the Legon Sports Directorate, told me the two institutions will vie for honours in both male and female basketball, hockey and track and field. The field events include long and triple jump, 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m and 4x400m.In addition, there will be a number of off-the-field events like a debate challenge contest and an excursion to the Boti Falls and Awukugua in the Aburi Gardens.

He said the University of Ibadan contingent for the games will be led by Professor Babatunde Ilotum. The Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor C N B Tagoe, will grace the Championships. The games were designed more than three decades ago in a bid to foster bilateral relations between the two institutions, both of which were established under British colonial rule in the first half of the 20th century
