Ghana meets Brazil for the 5th time

The world, particularly football enthusiasts, is about to experience one of the most interesting games in the history of football.

The Black Stars of Ghana, who at times have been referred to as the Brazilians of African football, are set to play their "football role models" today, September 23, at the Stade Oceane in France.

Meetings between the two, though, have always ended in favour of the Seleçãos but haven't been as easily achievable as the score line may seem, except that of 1996 when Ghana was subjected to an 8-2 defeat.

Having played four matches in history, the first meeting, which was played on March 27, 1996, was an international friendly as the upcoming one is and, as earlier stated, the West African football giants at the time saw a heftier defeat.

Tensed and terrifying as the next match may seem, that encounter happened to be at the 2006 World Cup, which was Ghana’s first appearance at that level of football.

Ghana wasn't fortunate as their fate in the tournament led them to face the Seleçãos in a June 27 round of 16 match, which ended in another 3-0 defeat for the Black Stars, showing them an exit at the Germany-hosted World.

Nearly a year after, on a record-repeating date of March 27, the two met again in a friendly match which again ended in a one-goal to the detriment of the Black Stars and then, lastly, in another 2010 international friendly which ended in a repeat of the 2007 score line.

Looking at the trend of score lines recorded from the earlier meetings between the Black Stars of Ghana and the Seleços of Brazil, Ghana’s performance seems to be moving into good shape, and as such, the next may end in a stalemate or a slight victory for Ghana if the trend is to be followed.

Notwithstanding, the Brazilian national team is currently enriched with a throng of some of the finest players in the world of football, with the likes of Neymar, Thiago Silva and others.

On the flip side, Ghana, though it has undoubtedly been a weak point recently in the football space, can also boast of a new shakeup with the likes of Kudus Mohammed, Inaki Williams, and others.

Now, as the football language always says, let time and fate decide the winner of this game after 9: 30 PM tonight.
