Accra, July 4, GNA - Mr Charles James Aryeh, newly appointed Acting Chief Executive of the National Sports Council (NSC) has revealed a three-phase short-term plan for the development of sports in the country.

The three-phase plan is to lay emphasis on the development of the human resource base of the Council, organisation of more sporting activities and a maiden sports fair aimed at encouraging local manufacturers of sports equipment.

Speaking to GNA Sports, Mr Aryeh said the NSC has previously failed in its quest to attract good technical personnel from the Winneba Sports College to train sports men and women because of the Council's unattractive working conditions.

"The Council under my management will therefore see to the training of 'ordinary people' to serve as coaches in the various sporting disciplines, who will then be sent out on outreach programmes to unearth talents at the grassroots level".

Mr Aryeh said he also intends giving local artisans who have the ability to produce sporting equipment the opportunity to exhibit their products at a Sports Fair to be organised later in the year. He envisaged that the fair will reduce the over reliance on imported sports equipment.

The former Eastern Regional Sport Development Officer (RSDO) who is in office for less than one week, underscored the importance of organising more sporting activities throughout the regions to develop new talents and keep the youth active.

Mr Aryeh said each region would have a standing team from each of the disciplines to participate in a national league.

He called on dormant associations under the Council to be up and doing to help in the development and promotion of sports in Ghana. "Some of the associations are sadly not nationalistic in character and getting them to change their ways forms part of my agenda", he added.
