Ghana is to present a well-drilled team to participate in the African Walking Championship to be held in Tunis between May 21 and 22 2005. So far, the team to represent the nation comprises five walkers and two officials, who leave Ghana for Tunisia on Friday for the championship event.

The walkers are, Eric Kwabena Nuamah, Benjamin Kojo Annan, Richard Arthur, Stanley Briamah and Fred Opoku. According to a major walking source, the two officials to accompany the team are ace walker Vincent Asumang and, Mary De-Lovrdes Brew.

This time, the team is being sponsored by Visco Walking Club with partnership support from a few corporate institutions. According to Ms De-Lovrdes Brew, even though the time for the invitation was relatively short, the team will do all it can to win honours for Ghana.

On his part, Asumang who in times past won a bronze medal in the continental All-Africa Games in South Africa in 1997, assured that the team would never rest until it has done everything humanly possible, to win medals for Ghana.

He said, the experience of Briamah and Nuamah, who, together, have walked for a total of 10 years will do well to ensure that they impacted positively on the rest of the the team. According to Asumang, Briamah holds the honour of participating in the World Walking Cup in Torino-Italy in 2000, while Nuamah has a wealth of international experience from competitions in London-England. The ace walker touched briefly on the technical problems of Ghanaian walkers but assured that, he is working round the clock in partnership with the Ghana Athletics Association, and Dave McGovern, a world renowned American walking coach.
