The Ghana U17 national team on Saturday afternoon suffered a 4-2 defeat to their Nigeria counterpart in the opening match of the 2022 WAFU Zone B U17 Championship.

Ghana is hosting the championship that will give successful national teams qualification to the CAF U17 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

In the opening match of Group A today, host nation Ghana welcomed Nigeria to the Cape Coast Stadium.

With the Black Starlets struggling to play the Golden Eaglets, the team being coached by Paa Kwasi Fabin fell to the rival side.

Goals from Emmanuel Michael and Precious Michael in the first half gave Nigeria a comfortable lead at the break before goals from Jubril Azeez and Light Ike sealed the big three points in the second half.

On the matchday, Abdul Razak Salifu and Collins Agyemang grabbed the consolation goals for Ghana’s Black Starlets.

Ghana in the second group match will play against Togo in a must-win game to stand any chance of progressing to the next stage of the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship.
