Former Black Stars coach, Charles Kwablan Akonnor has called for support for Otto Addo, stressing the German-trained tactician needs the support of Ghanaians to achieve success with the team.

Addo, 46, led the Black Stars to book a qualification for the global showpiece following a 1-1 draw against Nigeria in the final play-offs of the World Cup at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja in March having held the Super Eagles to a goalless game in the first leg at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Ghana are in Group C alongside Angola, Madagascar, and the Central African Republic.

The Black Stars will take Madagascar at the Cape Coast Stadium in their opener on June 1 before playing the Central African Republic on June 5.

Ahead of the games, Akonnor, who is a former Asante Kotoko gaffer has called on Ghanaians to support the technical team.

“I was happy with Otto Addo’s appointment. I spoke to him before he took over the job. I think what he needs is support and nothing else,” he said.

“We have World Cup and AFCON qualifiers coming up and that is what we must do if we want the team and the technical team to succeed," he added.

Otto Addo became the first Ghanaian to have represented Ghana at the World Cup and also qualified the team for the Mundial as a coach.

Ghana have been placed in Group H together with Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea for the World Cup which is scheduled for November 21 to December 18 in Qatar.
