MAY 16, 2022 LISTEN

Hearts of Oak forward, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has said it will be difficult for his side to defend their Premier League title.

The Phobians who won the treble last season, are on 44 points – 12 points behind sworn rivals and league leaders, Asante Kotoko.

Despite their poor performance in the ongoing 2021/22 season, Hearts of Oak are into the finals of the MTN FA Cup after beating Dreams FC 3-2 in the semi-finals and Afriyie Barnieh admits that the league title is far from reach.

“I take it to match after match, I think this season, we’ve lost one trophy though the league is not yet over if you calculate the matches left and the points I think I will say the probability of we losing one trophy is higher," Barnieh said after the win.

“So we’ve talked to ourselves and decided to keep this trophy so you can see us throughout the game that our mentality and everything is to maintain the FA Cup so we are all going out," he added.

The 2021 CAF U-20 AFCON winner was adjudged MVP of the FA Cup victory over Dreams FC.

Hearts of Oak will face Bechem United in the final fo the MTN FA Cup final next month at the Baba Yara Stadium.
