Ghana to host West African Handball Championship

Accra, Sept 16, GNA - The Ghana Handball Association (HAG) in conjunction with the French Embassy is to organise the 2nd Franco West African Handball Championship at the Prisons Sport Complex from Friday October 14 to Saturday 16. The tournament is being sponsored by the French Embassy with participating teams made up of the national teams of Togo, Nigeria, Benin, Burkina Faso and host nation, Ghana. A statement signed by Mr Saka Acquaye, Secretary General of HAG copied to the GNA Sports said the championship would be opened to both male and female teams of the participating nations.
The Technical Committee of the HAG has therefore selected 48 players from the Security Services to commence a three-week non-residential camping to prepare for the championship from Monday September 20. The statement said George Bankole and Angelina Shang who both just returned from a five-month coaching course in Germany would handle the male and female teams. It said Emmanuel Ankrah, the former Commonwealth number one goalkeeper would handle the goalkeepers whilst Beresford Amui of the Central Region Sports Council will act as the Technical Director.
