Quao retains Grandmasters Cup

Accra, Sep. 5, GNA - Michael Quao retained the Grandmasters championship trophy of the Ghana Scrabble Association of Ghana when he scored a positive spread of 393 to win this year's event held in Accra on Sunday.

Quao who won 11 out of the 15 games played, received three million cedis as his prize to retain the trophy he won last year.

Daniel Boadu who took the second position won 10 games with a positive spread of 931 and to receive two million cedis while C.M. Placca placed third winning 9.5 of the games with a positive spread of 197 to receive one million cedis.

Ten contestants drawn from across the country took part in the two-day competition sponsored by Golden Beach Hotels (GBH). Mr Bennet Kpentey, Chairman of the Scrabble Association of Ghana thanked the company for their sponsorship and called on other corporate bodies to help develop the game.

Miss Jeanne Donkoh, Corporate Affairs and Marketing Manager of GBH said the decision of the company to sponsor the event was to give it an international exposure.
