Records broken at Central Region sports festival

Agona Swedru, Aug.27, GNA - Three records were broken in the athletics event at the Central Region Basic Schools sports festival which ended at Agona Swedru last week. Miss Vivian Mills of Cape Coast District set a new record in the 400 metres race in 59.03secs to break the previous record of 1min.001sec. set in 1995.

She also led the 100 x 4 quartet to shatter the relay record with a time of 51.06 seconds against the old record of 52.4 seconds set in 2002.

Ms Emelia Abbey of Awutu-Efutu-Senya District also set a new record in the Javelin event with a throw of 28.55 metres to erase the old record of 28.25 metres set in 1994.

Cape Coast District emerged the over-all champions with 239 and a half points.

Awutu-Efutu-Senya District took the second position with 173 points, followed by Gomoa District with 103 points while Agona District came fourth with 102 and a half points.

Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) District took the fifth position with 96 points followed by Twifo-Heman-Lower-Denkyira District with 44 points.

In the boys division, Cape Coast District came first with 140 and a half points followed by Gomoa District with 78 points with Awutu-Efutu-Senya District placing third with 67 points while Agona District followed fourth with 56 and a 1/2 points.

KEEA District took the fifth position with 45 points while Twifo-Heman-Lower-Denkyira District came sixth with 24 points. In the girls division, Awutu-Efutu-Senya District came first with 106 points followed by Cape Coast District with 99 points with Agona District placing third with 46 points while Assin District came fourth with 43 points.

KEEA District took the fifth position with 41 points while Gomoa District came sixth with 25 points. 27 Aug. 04
