Volta Zone emerge overall Champions

Hohoe, July 21, GNA - The Volta zone emerged the overall champions of the Third National Teacher Training Colleges Sports Festival at Hohoe in the Volta Region.

The zone won five gold medals to come tops in both the men's and women's cross country and table tennis and men's volley-ball events, two silver medals in men's soccer and women's athletics and a bronze in men's athletics.

The Central/Western zone placed second with three gold medals in men's soccer, netball and women's athletics in addition to a silver in women's table tennis and two bronze medals in the women's cross country and men's table tennis events.

The Ashanti/Brong Ahafo zone, picked two gold medals in the women's volleyball and men's athletics; two silver in men's volleyball and netball and two bronze medals in women's table tennis and athletics to place third.

Eastern /Greater Accra zone came fourth with three silver medals in men's and women's table tennis and women's cross country and five bronze medals in netball, men's cross country, soccer and both men's and women's volleyball.

The Northern zone placed fifth winning three silver medals in men's cross country and athletics and women's volley-ball.

Mr Samuel Donkor Gyang, Volta Regional Director of Education in his closing remarks, praised the participants for their exemplary conduct that contributed to the success of the festival and urged them to extend such attitude unto their profession.

He urged the athletes to continue to work harder and be disciplined to justify their invitation into the national teams.
