National teams to prepare for 2nd Franco Handball Championship

Accra, July 15, GNA - The Handball Association of Ghana (HAG) in conjunction with the French Embassy would organise the second Franco West African Handball Championship at the Prisons Sports Complex from August 12 to 15.

A statement signed by Mr Saka Acquaye, General Secretary of HAG and copied to the GNA Sports said the competition would involve the men and women's national teams of Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso and the host nation, Ghana.

The four-day championship is to be sponsored by the French Embassy.

In view of the up coming competition, the Technical Committee of HAG has selected 40 players from the recently held National Sports Festival and the Securities Services Games to represent the nation. Coach Beresford Amui of the Central Regional Council is to handle Ghana's selected male and female teams.

The Statement called on the selected players to assemble on Friday, July 16 at the Prisons Complex to start training.

The selected players for the men's team are, Seima Adams, Yussif Seidu, Joseph Quaye, Francis Asare and Christian Banla all from the Police Service.

Others are Richard Ankrah, Peter Ayensu, George Heh and Peter Amegashie from the Ghana Armed Forces whilst Isaah Ankarah, Joseph Cudjoe and Eugene Ahoni are from the camp of the Fire Service. The rest are Adams Mahama from Future Stars and Rufai Abubakari from Young Hands.

The women's team are made up of Sarah Ayornu, Joyce Agbozo, Rafatu Kumah, Akosua Gyegu, Ajara Adam, Chirstie Mensah, and Vida Mensah from the Ghana Armed Forces.

The rest includes Patience Bokor, Hajara Mahama, Juliana Bediako, Sahiratu Issakah, Adeline Dzomeku and Olivia Konadu from the Police Service whilst the list completes with Cinthia Lamptey and Vida Aminu from Fire Service. 16 July 2004
