Acquah wins Republic Day Marathon

Tema, July 1, GNA - Barnabas Acquah of Awudome Genesis Keep Fit Club clocked 40.35 minutes to win the maiden Sakumono Estate Keep Fit Club Republic Day Marathon held at Sakumono, near Tema on Thursday. Prosper Akadji came second with a time of 40.37 minutes while Mustapha Mohammed took the third position with a time of 41 minutes. Sarah Mensah of Bubuashie won the Ladies event with a time of one hour, 32 seconds, Veronica Botwe placed second while Belinda Nutsugah took the third position.

David Asare of Future Professionals Keep Fit Club of Bubuashie won the Under-15 category with Anthony Goka and Fred Mensah taking the s second and the third positions respectively.

More than 200 runners took part in the nine-mile race, which started from the Coca Cola Roundabout through Community 18 and ended at the Sakumono Complex School Park.

Mr James Agbedor, Chairman of the Sakumono Estate Keep Fit Club said the club organised the event to commemorate the celebration of the Republic Day and also to test the physical fitness of their members. He called on Ghanaians to take active interest in physical fitness so that they can stay healthy at all times.
