President Kufuor congratulates South Africa

Accra May 19, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Wednesday sent a congratulatory message to President Thabo Mbeki and the people of South Africa on their historic achievement of winning the bid to host the FIFA World Cup for the first time on the African continent. This was contained in a statement from the Office of the Press Secretary, Mr Kwabena Agyepong.

The statement said President Kufuor shared the view that South Africa's achievement, coming after a painful loss by a single vote to Germany to host 2006 World Cup showed what resilience and determination could achieve.

It said President Kufuor had expressed the hope that South Africa hosts a great event to the glory of Africa.
