Wa, April 20, GNA - Mr. Thomas L. Saanye, Upper West Regional Sport Development officer has made an urgent appeal to the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) to fund the Region's preparatory competitions towards this year's national sport festival scheduled for Kumasi.
The National Sports Festival is scheduled to take place in Kumasi from June four to 13 this year.
Making the appeal through the GNA Sports in Wa, Mr Saanye said it is the hope of sports loving people that the Regional Minister, Sahanun Mogtari who is both the Chairman of the RCC and the Regional Sports Council will come to the aid of the regional sports development secretariat since it lacks funds and other logistics including sporting equipment needed for the development and promotion of sports in the region.
He also appealed to philanthropists in the region, the District Assemblies and Non Governmental Organisations to consider the sponsorship for individual sportsman and women in the region who excel at sporting competitions to improve upon their performance and also serve as morale booster to others.
The Regional Sports Development Officer said there are 40 Under-14 and Under-17 Colts clubs in the Wa Municipality alone that are being handled by individuals who lack the requisite logistics and finances to sustain them.
He said the secretariat in conjunction with some individuals has formed seven playing card associations in the Wa Municipality so as to engage the youth in making use of their time judiciously and not to loiter about aimlessly.
