Cup of Nations 2021 AFCON: Player indiscipline reason for Black Stars poor performance – Lawmaker Patrick Boamah
JAN 27, 2022 LISTEN

Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Boamah believes Black Stars poor performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] was due to player indiscipline.

Ghana who were hoping to win their fifth AFCON title got crashed at the group phase without a win.

The Black Stars finished 4th with just a point after three matches played.

The playing body has been taken to the cleaners following their poor performance in Yaounde.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, Boamah said the issue needs to be looked at seriously.

“There is also an issue of player discipline, you can’t build a national team where certain players feel they are superior, can break camp rules and expect better results, you won’t get it," the lawmaker said.

“You must respect camp rules, people go to camp and do anything and expect the country to win.

“Football has changed, it has become very technical and you have to be disciplined.

“If Ghana wants to continue to be seen as a football country, we must take a second look at our national team and find out why these players are refusing to join our national team.

The Ghana Football Association have officially announced the sacking of Milovan Rajevac following the early exit from the AFCON.

Ghana now prepare to play rivals, Nigeria in the 2022 Fifa World Cup playoffs in March.
