2021 AFCON: Morocco defeat disappointing but we will progress, says Ghana skipper Andre Ayew

Ghana captain, Andre Ayew has admitted that losing to Morocco is disappointing but remain optimistic that the team will surely make it to the next round of the competition.

The Black Stars suffered a painful 1-0 defeat to the Atlas Lions in the Group C opener of the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] on Monday afternoon.

Sofiane Boufal's 82nd-minute strike settled the encounter as the North African picked all three points.

Speaking after the game, the Al Sadd star said that the result was not the best for the team but there would be other opportunities to right the wrongs and make it out of the group.

“It is a disappointing way to lose a game and concede a goal in the last five minutes but it is the first game. We need to look at our mistakes and do much more.

"We have two matches left and I am confident that we will qualify from the group. We believe in ourselves and we believe in what we can do,” he said.

The Black Stars will be hoping to return to winning ways when they take on Gabon on Friday in their second Group C games.
