Accra, Oct 14, GNA - The Ghana Rugby Association (GRA) has put in a bid to host the Africa Under-19 competition in Accra next year. Madam Gifty Annan-Myers Chairperson of the association who disclosed this to the GNA Sports said, they have decided to bid for the event in order to help promote the game in the country. She said they are hoping to secure the bid despite facing stiff opposition from like Nigeria, Togo and Benin.

The chairperson said two venues; the Accra Sports Stadium and the Legon Park will be used for the three-day event if Ghana is given the nod.

Madam Annan-Myers said, they will be ever ready to host it because available facilities at their disposal can match to the event if given the nod.

She said as part of their preparations for the tournament, the association will soon move to schools to establish rugby clubs there in order to train more youthful players to represent the nation.

According to her, the association has completed the first phase of the project by training coaches to mould talents in schools. She said they are going to use part of the donation of 15 million cedis given to the team by the Youth, Education and Sports Ministry to embark on talent hunt.
