Ghana’s sole walker at the All Africa Games Ahmed Tijani Sannie of the Ghana Armed Forces Navy is scheduled to compete in the eighth All Africa Games currently going on in Nigeria in the 20 km category on Sunday.

Sanni who just competed in the Rotterdam Racewalking competition and finished first ahead of a field of over 100, is expected to carry aloft the flag of Ghana which was last raised at the Games by his compatriot and training partner the ace walker Vincent Asumang of the Ghana National Fire Service who won bronze in the seventh Games in South Africa.

His final training for the Games was staggered by the refusal of the American Embassy in Accra to grant him a United States visa to complete a much-requested foreign practice tour on the orders of his foreign coach Dave McGovern of WORLD CLASS RACEWALKING fame in the U.S. for no apparent reason.

However Sanni is optimistic to finish among the medalists in Nigeria so as to state Ghana’s case as a traditionally strong walking nation in Africa.
