Accra, Sept. 17, GNA - One of Ghana's cycling biggest events, La Route de Koforidua, which normally heralds the tour du Ghana, has been scheduled for October 11, this year at Kofordua.
Sixteen cycling clubs from five regions are expected to participate in the championship being put together by the French Embassy in collaboration with the National Sports Council.
Mr Francis Kpesenu, General Secretary of the Ghana Cycling Association (GCA), told the GNA Sports in Accra on Wednesday that seven of the clubs will be selected from Accra while Sunyani and Kumasi will have two each.
Koforidua will be represented by three clubs while Tamale and the Volta regions will have one representative each.
The championship is to fine-tune the cyclists for the Tour Du Ghana, which has been scheduled for November, this year.
Mr Kpesenu said apart from the French Embassy, which is the main sponsor, other eight local companies would be supporting. They are, Wienco fertilizer, Pepsi, Cowbell, Woodin, Ernest Chemist, Porsch energy drink, Germeni Life Insurance Company Limited (GLICO) and Cob "A" Mineral water.
