Ho, Sept. 10, GNA - The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has released more than 300 million cedis towards the funding of the 23rd Inter-Regional Schools and Colleges Sports Festival underway in Ho for the one-week event.

Mr Samuel Donkor Gyang, Volta Regional Director of Education told the GNA Sports in an interview that the amount would cover feeding, accommodation, transport and logistics for the 1,800 participants and officials.

He said all initial problems associated with such events have been resolved.

Mr Gyang called for a high display of good sportsmanship and discipline among the participants and officials to make the festival a memorable one.

Mr Benedictus K. Dzokoto, National Co-ordinator, Physical Education Programmes of the Ghana Education Service (GES) said Nestle Ghana Limited was assisting the organisers with "wet sampling" of products while "Star Kist" would present its products to athletes who excel.

Meanwhile, a sports enthusiast, Dr Alfred B. Taylor, domiciled in the USA has donated three trophies to be presented to the best boy and girl athletes as well as the best girl soccer player.

He had also replaced the overall best region trophy and the overall girls soccer trophy with new ones.

Dr Taylor, who is also an Attorney and Counsellor in Law in Boston, USA, said the donation was his widow's mite to sports development in the country.
