Cup of Nations Black Stars: Kudus Mohammed set to miss 2021 Afcon due to injury
NOV 23, 2021 LISTEN

Ghana and Ajax Amsterdam midfielder, Kudus Mohammed is fighting to stay fit for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [Afcon].

The 20-year-old suffered the latest setback while on international duty with Ghana in their final Group G games of the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against South Africa.

Kudus got injured around the rib area and was stretchered off

The former FC Nordsjaelland midfielder is set to be out for the rest of the year.

Giving an update on Kudus’ situation, manager Erik Ten Hag cast doubt over the possibility of the youngster returning to action in the next six weeks to end the year 2021.

“It is a serious injury that will take a while,” he said.

“I don’t know if he will be able to get into action this calendar year.

“It is very annoying that he was injured again.

“He had just been fit for a while and has played a number of games. He played a very good role against Borussia Dortmund. It’s extremely disappointing, especially for himself.

“He is deeply disappointed that it will happen to him again. We’ll have to pull him out and he’ll have to lift himself up again,” ten Hag added.

Mohammed Kudus has been unlucky with injuries this season and it has affected his game time.

Next year's Afcon will be staged in Cameroon from January to February.
