Ghana defender, Andy Yiadom has indicated that the penalty awarded to the Black Stars in the game against South Africa last weekend was a little soft.

The full-back was in action for his national team last Sunday when the team defeated the Bafana Bafana 1-0 to win Group G of the African qualifiers for next year’s global tournament.

Looking back at the penalty incident that handed Ghana the win, Andy Yiadom has told BBC Sports Africa that it was a soft one.

“When I was on the pitch it looked like it was a penalty but I have watched it back it was a little bit soft,” the defender who plays for Reading told BBC World Service.

The right-back added, “But it is football and I have had them given against me plenty of times and it is one of those things and it was about actually scoring the penalty which we did.

“I have been the person who has just touched him and the other person has just fallen over. At the moment I know we won the game and that's that.”

Amid the controversy the penalty incident has generated, the South Africa Football Association (SAFA) has run to FIFA with a protest seeking a replay of the Ghana v South Africa clash.
