Golden Sticks ‘Ship-wreck’ Marine Sticks of Ghana Navy During the 22nd week when Golden Sticks of Ghana Commercial Bank Limited provided a championship lifeline to Marine sticks by holding defending champions Exchequers of Bank of Ghana to a pulsation 1-1 drawn game, little did the Marines dream that come the 23rd week, they will face an even humiliating situation at the hands of the Commercial Bankers. In their epic match, the Bankers run riot and pummeled the Marines 3-1 to throw their dream of a 2002 Pepsi league crown down the ocean. The men who did the damage for Golden Sticks were Solomon Barnor (24th and 35th) and Sampson Yeboah (65th) with Edward Oblie (62nd) pulling one back for the Marines. In the final match of the day, Exchequers brightened their chances of retaining the Pepsi league trophy when they showed no mercy on youthful Kingsticks by putting 4 goals in their net without a reply. Eddie Odametey (22nd), Samuel Kwaw (24th and 38th) and Adjei ‘Bazooka’ Boateng (30th) did the damage and in the process take Exchequers back to the top of the league table with 1 point ahead of rivals Marine Sticks who have played one much more than the Central Bankers. If Exchequers win their penultimate league match against rejuvenated Veterans during the 24th week, that will effectively seal the championship and render their match against Marine sticks on the final day of competition a battle of wits and pride. Perhaps the Marines will want to prove to the Central Bankers that they are capable of beating them to reiterate their determination to break the dominance and stranglehold on Ghana hockey. Veterans Record First Win of the Season: Veterans Hockey club played an inspired game to beat Reformers of Ghana Prisons 2-1 in their 23rd week league match to claim their first points in the almost ending Pepsi Hockey league. Veterans led 2-0 at half-time through Kukubor (14th) and Dupleix (24th) while Ken Adjomadi (38th) pulled one back for Reformers. The rest of the scores are: CEPS - 0 Fire – 0 Tema Stars – 9 Pepsi Babies – 1 (Juvenile) GAHA Stars – 3 Indece Ave. Stars – 2 (Juvenile) The Pepsi Hockey League Table: Men’s Division: Week: 23 Date: 9/12/02
