Mona Captan of Achimota Golf Club, on Sunday, made history by winning the Ladies Section of the Accra Open Golf Championship trophy for the third time.

Mona, who won the competition in the years 2000 and 2001, scored a gross of 166 to beat a field of 50 golfers in the two-day Scratch competition which was sponsored by Komatsu Ghana Limited.

Florence Etwi-Barimah was second with 167 gross while Grace Komladzei placed third with 168 gross.

T.K. Agama won the Men's event with 141 gross, Vincent Torgah came second with 146 gross beating J.K. Mensah on countback, Kojo Kyei placed fourth with 148 gross while J.A. Love took the fifth position with 157 gross.

C.K. Amegavie won the Handicap event with 137 net, Kwame Lucky was second with 139 n et, John Tetteh was third with 140 net while Yao Homeku placed fourth with 141 net.

Victor Brave-Mensah won the Professionals event with 280 gross, Emos Korblah was second with 283 gross, F.C. Dzikunu was third with 299 gross while Baba Akologo came fourth with 300 gross.

Mr Edward Osei Kwaku, Minister for Youth and Sports in an address read for him, said the government would do everything possible to ensure that the sport is developed into international standard.

He charged the Achimota Golf Club to institute the 'President of Ghana Open" championship and it would be sponsored by the Ministry and the National Sports Council when it is instituted.
