Torgah and Mona win Tema Open

Vincent Torgah and Mona Captan became the proud winners in the Men's and Ladies event of this year's Tema Open Golf Championship, which ended at the Tema Country Golf Course on Sunday.

Torgah scored 147 gross while Mona scored 168 gross in the two-day 36-hole Scratch event, which was jointly sponsored by Volta Aluminum Company Limited (VALCO), Glotech Engineering Limited and Star Assurance Company.

Eric Henaku came second with 151 gross, J.A. Love was third with 154 gross beating D.K. Doe on count-back while Owusu Ansah placed fifth with 155 gross, also beating K. Barnie on count-back. Grace Komladzei took the second position in the Ladies event with 171 gross, Valentine Manteaw was third with 178 gross while Florence Etwi-Barimah came fourth with 181 gross. Baba Akologo won the Professionals category with 217 gross, Victor Brave-Mensah was second with 220 gross, S. K. Klah was third with 228 gross while Paul Dossey was fourth with 236 gross.

The competition attracted over 150 participants throughout the country. Mr John Cobbinah, Captain of the Tema Country Golf Club praised the participants for their massive turnout for the competition.

He also thanked the companies for their sponsorship and called on other corporate bodies and institutions to help develop the sport. Mr Felix Owusu-Adjapong, Minister of Communications and Technology assisted by Dr J.V.L. Phillips, former Board Chairman of VALCO, to presented trophies to the winners.
