Cape Coast are Champs

Cape Coast District emerged the overall champions with 34 points in the 15th annual inter-district sports festival which ended at the University of Cape Coast sports grounds last Saturday at Cape Coast.

Awutu-Efutu-Senya placed second with 37 points, Agona was third with 41 points while Gomoa District came fourth with 48 points.

Assin District took the fifth position with 70 points, Upper Denkyira was sixth with 74 points, while Komenda-Edina-Eguafo came 7th with 79 points.

Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District placed eight with 86 points, Mfantseman was ninth with 87 points, Twifu-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira was 10th with 91 points, Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, 11th with 98 points while Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa came last with 106 points.

At the end of the festival 108 boys and girls were selected to represent Central Region in the 25th edition of Inter Regional Basic schools Sports Festival which comes off at the Kumasi Sports Stadium next month.

In a closing address, read on her behalf, Mrs Kate Amartey, Acting Regional Director of education, commended the district directors and their technical regional personnel for the able manner which the festival was conducted.

She appealed to the district directors, heads of schools, the coaches as well as the pupils to co-operate with the organizers for the forthcoming national festival. Mr Isaac Bart-Addison, Chairman of Basic Schools Sports Association, appealed to the technical personel and coaches to ensure proper screening during the selection for the national festival.

Certificates and cash prizes were presented to deserving boys and girls.
