Commercial Bank to Sponsor Golf Competition

Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) will sponsor their maiden golf competition at the Achimota Golf Club in Accra on Saturday, December 15.

Mr Gilbert Morgan, Captain of the Club who announced this in Accra on Monday, said the one-day 18-hole stable-ford competition open to amateur golfers from Tema, Celebrity Club and the hosts, Achimota Golf Club, is expected to attract over 160 participants.

He said the competition will be played in accordance with the rules of golf as approved by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrew, the world's golf governing body, the Ghana Golf Association and the local rules of Achimota Golf Club.

Mr Morgan named some of the golfers from Achimota who have already signed up for the competition as F.K. Owusu-Adjapong, Minister for Communications and Technology, F.K. Degbe, Francis Agbemor, Lee Mensah, David Arkutu and Ben Donkor.

The competition has a 'handicap 18' as the entry requirement for the Men's event while that of the Ladies is pegged at 'handicap 27'.

Mr William Panford Bray, Managing Director of the GCB will make a special donation to the Achimota Golf Club on the day of the competition.

Mr Joe Aggrey, Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports will be the special guest of honour.

On Sunday, December 16, the seniors' group of the Club will hold their end-of-year competition. The event, which is open to members of the Club aged 65 years and above will be climaxed by an end of year address by Mr Ishmael Yamson, President of the Club.
