Ghana coach, CK Akunnor is hoping to lead the Black Stars to the 2022 World Cup scheduled for Qatar next year.

The West African country will commence their quest for their ticket to Qatar with a home game against Ethiopia on Friday, September 3, 2021, at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Ghana having failed to make it to Russia for the 2018 FIFA World Cup are bent on making a sensational return to the biggest football tournament on the globe.

Coach Charles Akonnor says his lads will put up a better fight to qualify for the World Cup which will be hosted by Qatar.

“We know all the teams. South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Ethiopia will do their bit to get there [Qatar] but we will put in hard work and we know that hard work pays," the 46 year old said on Thursday.

“The last [World Cup] we went to was in Brazil. We didn’t qualify for the last one [Russia 2018].

"We are hoping and believing that this is the time for us to be back there,” he added.

The previous encounter between Ghana and Ethiopia was in November 2018.

Ghana won 2-0 over Ethiopia in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Addis Ababa Stadium in Ethiopia.

The Black Stars will play their second Group G game against South Africa in Johanesbery on Monday September 6.
