Handball in Ghana would be given a boost this year with a big corporate sponsorship for a third national championship in addition to two national competitions already on the calendar.

In an interview with the GNA Sports, Mr B T Baba, chairman of the Ghana Handball Association, said the company, (name withheld) has completed all the necessary formalities and in due course would come out in a grand style to give details of its package.

" We have a busy year ahead of us this year with four major competitions, three on the local scene one internationally, in addition to the regional leagues" Mr Baba said this year's regional handball leagues would start in April and would be preceded by the traditional gala and climaxed by the first national championship at Kpando.

He said the second national championship would also be held in October and would be under Ghana-France co-corporation.

" The local activities would be rounded off in December with the second Security Service Games, a sequel to the first edition that took place at the Prisons Sports Complex on the first of December 2000".

On the international scene the national handball team would participate in the African Handball Championship either in Benin or Cote D'Ivoire later in the year.
