Kumasi Asante Kotoko are set to part ways with head coach of the side, Mariano Barreto according to multiple reports.

The Ghana Premier League ended the 2020/21 football season trophyless under the former Black Stars head coach.

The Porcupine Warriors lost the Premier League title to their sworn rivals, Hearts of Oak.

Kotoko were hoping to defend the MTN FA Cup title but lost to Berekum Chelsea on Sunday.

Barreto's side hosted Chelsea at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium and after extra time, Kotoko lost on 4-5 on penalty shootouts to end their season trophyless.

After Kotoko's elimination, multiple reports in the local media suggest that Barreto is set to be shown the exit.

The Portuguese gaffer was named as the head coach of the club prior to the start of the second half of the season after Maxwell Konadu was sacked in December after losing to Great Olympics.

Barreto signed a one and half year deal with the Ghana Premier League powerhouse.

However, according to Kumasi based Silva FM, the management of the club have settled on Ibrahim Tanko as the new head coach ahead of the new season.

Tanko has been unattached since leaving his job as the head coach of the local Black Stars this year.

Tanko has served as the assistant coach of the Black Stars under Kwasi Appiah from 2017 to 2019.

His understanding and experience in the dugout is undoubted having served as as assistant coach for Cameroon as well.

Asante Kotoko finished the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season on the 2nd position with 57 points and exited the MTN FA Cup at the quarterfinal of the competition.
