Elmina Sharks on Friday afternoon put up a good fight to ensure they ended a run of six matches without a win to defeat Techiman Eleven Wonders 2-1 in the Ghana Premier League.
The Cape Coast-based outfit today hosted the side from Techiman at the Paa Kwasi Nduom Park in a matchday 29 encounter of the ongoing Ghanaian top-flight league campaign.
Needing a win to avoid dropping into the relegation zone of the Premier League table, Elmina Sharks players stepped up to ensure they got the job done.
On the matchday, a bright start from the home team saw them score after just two minutes into the first half when striker Benjamin Bernard Boateng found the back of the Eleven Wonders net with a fine finish.
Three minutes later, the once highly-rated forward was presented with another good chance and made no mistake as he slotted his effort into the back of the net of the visitors to double the lead for his team.
Although Abass Ganiu will net a consolation for Techiman Eleven Wonders in the second half, it did not matter as Elmina Sharks defended very well to cruise to an important 2-1 win at the end of the 90 minutes.
Courtesy of today’s win, Elmina Sharks have climbed to 11th on the Ghana Premier League table. For Eleven Wonders, the team is 14th on the log and could drop into the red zone at the end of matchday if results from other matches do not go their way.
