JUN 5, 2021 LISTEN

The anticipation, the suspense and the euphoria that comes with the Euros are soon about to be gratified when Euro 2020 kicks off on Friday, June 11.

Due to the galaxy and wealth of football stars it presents, this is without a doubt the most beautiful, attractive, and competitive nations continental tournament.

The Euro always has a sea of stars who cause a pinch of pain or disappointment in the hearts of fans all over the world due to their absence from action.

This year's tournament is no exception, as football fans will once again miss out on a slew of stars and talents.

Let's take a look at five stars who had had a splendid season but yet are going to miss Euro 2020.

Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland is currently one of the most sought-after players in the world of football. After a fantastic season with Borussia Dortmund, the striker was just voted the 2020/21 Bundesliga Player of the Year and also the UEFA Champions League top scorer for 2020/21 season. The Norwegians, on the other hand, will not be competing in the future competition because they were unable to qualify.

Despite having a generation of great young players in the squad, such as Martin Odegaard, Sander Berge, Alexander Sorloth, and Haaland himself, Norway missed the bus after losing to Serbia in the qualification play-off. He will be one of the main omissions from Euro 2020, which will feature a slew of new talent.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Since his return to Serie A as an AC Milan player from the MLS, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been a revelation. Ibrahimovic, who is 39 years old, has 17 goals and three assists in 27 games. Helping AC Milan to qualify for the UEFA champions league after a long absence from the elite competition. Furthermore, the forward returned to international duty after a five-year absence to assist Sweden in the Euros.

Sadly for the striker and Swedish national team fans, he sustained a knee injury during a 3-0 win over Juventus. Because of the injury, the former Manchester United star would not be able to compete in the event. The Swedish Football Association quickly confirmed that the striker will not be participating in the Euro 2020 tournament.

Virgil Van Dijk

Virgil Van Dijk hasn't played in a while. During a match against Everton in the Merseyside derby earlier in the 2020/21 season, the Liverpool center-back sustained a significant knee injury. He was out for the rest of the season because of the severity of his anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The Dutch international has been working on his comeback since then. The 29-year-old, though, has decided not to compete in the Euros. “With all that has happened, I believe it is the right decision for me to opt out of Euro 2020 and complete my final phase of rehab during the off-season,” he told Liverpool's official website.

Sergio Ramos

Ramos' absence for Spain may have been one of the most surprising of any country's omissions from this edition of the Euros.

Despite the fact that the renowned Spanish captain missed time due to injury throughout the 2020/21 season, Ramos' absence from Luis Enrique's team sheet was utterly unexpected.

There will be no Real Madrid players on the Spain team for the first time in history.

Ramos who is the captain of both club and national team has been left out of Spain's Euro squad.

Dusan Vlahovic

In a nutshell, Dusan Vlahovic is a combination of strength, speed, and power.

The Serbian striker is built and stands tall enough to be a target man, which he uses to great effect. Vlahovic, on the other hand, isn't a one-trick pony up front; the striker enjoys roaming to the wings and all over the front line, as well as coming deep to receive the ball and link-up play.

Vlahovic has an intense thirst to score, and with more experience and a more cohesive team behind him, his success rate will only improve in the coming years.

In 37 appearances this season, the 21-year-old scored 21 goals and added two assists in Serie A.

He ended up winning the Serie A Best Young Player award. At the Euros, he will undoubtedly be missed.
