An equestrian career is not for everyone. Not many think of it as a veritable form of profession, but Hamad Rashed Bin Ghadayer would disagree. As the owner and trainer of the prestigious Racing Horses and Camels of the United Arab Emirates, Ghadayer has been working with horses for a very long time. In his long stint of grooming, training, and caring for horses, he has concluded that the youth must seriously consider an equestrian career. Here’s why.

Teaches responsibility

Horses are amazing creatures. They are beautiful, graceful, and full of pride and loyalty. But they are not easy to control. For Ghadayer, youngsters who engage with horses learn about being responsible. He says, “I have been working with horses forever. They have influenced the way I look at life and the way I live it. It’s been such a blessing to be around them. I am 100 percent sure that today’s youth, who are so inclined towards unearned entitlement, will learn a lot about taking ownership and responsibility when they choose to work with horses.”

He adds, “The point is not in taming a horse, but in inculcating a relationship in which the horse develops respect for you as his guide and even master. To enable this, young people will have to bring in from within themselves a sense of responsibility towards the horse. Then, with time and dedication, they will earn the trust of an animal who is such a powerful and enigmatic force of nature. Achieving such a feat is always very rewarding.”

Teaches discipline

Discipline is the key factor in becoming and succeeding as an equestrian. Hamad Rashed Bin Ghadayer believes that this career can help young people understand the role of discipline in a much more organic way, making them feel less resentful towards a sense of organization, timings, and order.

He says, “A well-trained horse is worth his weight in gold. To achieve a high level of performance with a horse, trainers must develop a strict routine of rides, feed, and general camaraderie with their horses. As their relationship grows with the horse, they are bound to notice the value that being disciplined brought to it.”

A promising career improves us as individuals. An equestrian career can help bring out some of the best abilities in the young.
