Former Black Stars midfielder, Michael Essien has offered his support to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA) community in Ghana amid the ongoing condemnation.

In the last few weeks, an office opened in Accra by the LGBT+ community has not been taken likely by the Ghanaian populace with organisations and institutions calling for stiffer laws to deal with members of the community seeking to have same-sex marriage legalized.

In the wake of the backlash from the public where members of the LGBTQIA have indicated that they feel they are not safe in Ghana, ex-Black Stars midfielder Michael Essien has extended his solidarity to the group.

In a post on his Instagram page, the former footballer turned coach has preached equality and says he is with the LGBTIA community in Ghana.

Meanwhile, President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over the past weekend stated emphatically that same-sex marriage will have no place during his time as the leader of the West African country.
