Missing Champions League group stage was hard for me, says Ajax winger Kudus Mohammed

Ghana and Ajax winger, Kudus Mohammed has admitted that missing the group stage of the Champions League was the hardest thing for him.

The 20-year-old suffered an injury on his Champions League debut against Liverpool in October 2020.

Kudus was diagnosed with a meniscus injury which kept him out of play for three months.

After recovering from the injury, the former FC Nordsjaelland ace says missing the Champions League was the hardest thing for him.

“The fact that I subsequently had to miss the entire group phase of the Champions League was the hardest thing for me," he told Algemeen Dagblad.

"It was very difficult because as a little boy I already dreamed of playing at this level.

“My meniscus was damaged and an operation was needed. After a few days, the switch was made and I started to focus on rehabilitation."

Ajax exited the Champions League group phase finishing 3rd with 7 points in Grpup D.

He returned in Ajax 4-2 win against Sparta in the Dutch Eredivisie over the weekend.

After scoring on his return, the forward he felt good after returning to the pitch and hoping to stay strong.

“That felt good. It was especially important to feel comfortable on the field after my injury," he said.

"I have been training for a while, but a match is very different," he added.

Kudus will be hoping to feature when Ajax host French side, Lille in the Europa League tonight at the Amsterdam Arena.

The enterprising winger joined the Dutch side from Danish side, FC Nordsjaelland this last summer.
