Kudus Mohammed to sit out for a while due to fresh injury - Ajax boss confirms

17.01.2021 LISTEN

Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Kudus Mohammed will sit out for some time due to discomfort.

The 20-year-old who made a return against PSV Eindhoven after recovering from injury was left out of their team squad against FC Twente.

On his Champions League debut, Kudus was hauled off the pitch after just six minutes after upsetting his meniscus following a challenge with Liverpool's Fabinho in their group stage opener in October.

Tests after the match revealed significant damage, prompting Ajax to announce the Ghanaian was set to spend "many months" in the treatment room.

The Ghana international was again left out of the team squad in their 1-0 win against Feyenoord on Sunday afternoon.

However, Ten Hag speaking to the press before the game confirmed that the former Right to Dream Academy graduate will sit out for some time due to discomfort and doesn't want to risk him.

"We are not taking any chances with that boy," Erik ten Hag told ESPN.

"He doesn't feel completely comfortable after last week, so he stays aside for a while but he did train last week," he added.

Kudus joined the Dutch giants in a five-year deal from Danish outfit Nordsjaelland last July following a series of fine performances during the 2019-20 season.

He got his Ajax career off to a bright start, delivering three assists and one goal in five competitive outings for the club at the time of his injury.
