Decathlon Ghana, a French sports retail firm on Thursday opened a new branch at Kawukudi in Accra to commence operation in April.
The new facility was inspected by the French Ambassador to Ghana, Madam Anne Sophia Ave and was accompanied by Jean-Yves le Drian, the French Foreign Minister to Ghana, CEO of Decathlon Ghana, Mr Kwasi Tabury, Ghanaian legend Abedi Ayew ‘Pele’ and other guests.
The group toured the new office and other sports facilities in the area including the Dunk Community Basketball Court where he interacted with some of the youth and members of the Decathlon Read and Play Club.
Interacting with the media, Mr Jean-Yves le Drian expressed excitement at the developments undertaken by Decathlon and wished them the well Ex-Ghanaian skipper Abedi Pele for gracing the event and was pleased to meet him.
Mr Kwasi Tabury said his mission was to ‘Change People’s Lives Through Sport’.
Decathlon Ghana provides sports coaches to various disciplines which include football, basketball, cycling, aerobics, fitness, ballet among others.
Among social projects Decathlon have undertaken includes the Clean and Play project which started in 2017 with the aim to protect, preserve and sustain the environment by engaging in cleanup activities and practice sports with them afterwards.
The Read and Play project was developed to empower and educate youths living in the community and impact both soft and hard skills using sports as the main tool to help them become better people in their communities’ he stressed.
