Legendary Ghana striker, Asamoah Gyan has indicated that he is proud to have made the return to his home country to play in the Ghana Premier League.

Having sealed a move from Liberty Professionals to Udinese in 2003, the prolific striker went on to enjoy successful spells in countries such as England, Turkey, Chine, and United Arab Emirates.

After 17 years abroad, Asamoah Gyan is back in Ghana where he has signed for Premier League outfit Legon Cities FC.

With global attention in the last few days, the striker says he is proud to be back home.

“Sometimes people forget that the Ghanaian league is also a professional league. I got the offer and everything was right - as a professional you have to evaluate everything. I am very proud to be in the Ghanaian league”, Gyan told BBC Sport Africa in an interview.

The former Sunderland attacker added, “I am in Ghana and I am home. I signed for this club because they have a huge project - they want to change Ghana football. I came here for a reason so while I am enjoying football, we are also doing things behind the scenes to benefit Ghana football”.

At Legon Cities FC, Asamoah Gyan has given the team a huge boost, making the side title contenders for the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season.
