Ghana great, Asamoah Gyan has opened up about his admiration for Black Stars head coach CK Akonnor after noting that he likes the honest nature of the gaffer.
Appointed in January 2020, Coach Akonnor has taken over from Coach James Kwesi Appiah and tasked to qualify the team for the next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and FIFA World Cup tournaments.
Although Asamoah Gyan has not featured for the Black Stars in the CK Akonnor era, he insists that he has developed some admiration for the tactician after speaking to him.
“We spoke a couple of times when he was first appointed. Of course, as one of the experienced figures in the team, we had to share ideas.
“He is a straightforward person and I like that about him”, Gyan said in an Instagram live.
Asamoah Gyan continued, “He just came and we have to give him some time, he is still building a team. He is very honest in his dealings and that’s what I like most about him”.
The former Sunderland forward further called for Coach CK Akonnor to be allowed to have the free hands to work.
“He should be allowed to do his work without external influence because if not he will have a lot of problems”, Gyan concluded.
