Experienced forward, Solomon Asante was on target on Saturday night to help his Phoenix Rising FC to defeat Reno 1868 FC to ensure they progressed to the finals of the USL Championship Western Conference playoff.

The Ghana international has continued his fine form in the 2020 USL Championship regular season in the playoff and registered his name on the scoresheet last weekend when the Phoenix beat Sacramento Republic FC in the playoff quarter-finals.

In the semi-finals yesterday, Solomon Asante started for his team when they played away to Reno 1868 FC and the Greater Nevada Field.

On the Matchday, Corey Hertzog and Kevin Partida scored for the home team in the first half on the 6th and 40th minute respectively to give them the advantage.

With Kevon Lambert equalizing in added time, Phoenix Rising FC trailed 2-1 at the break.

After recess, Solomon Asante dazzled and scored the decisive second goal for his team in the 71st minute after combing with Santi Moar.

The inspirational forward will go on to last the full 90 minutes and play a part in extra time. Later in the second half of extra time, Asante paved way for compatriot Kontor Owusu-Ansah.

The outstanding performance of Solomon Asante saw him merit a high rating of 8.3 on the back of a passing accuracy of 88%, and his 3 shots on target.

With the encounter remaining level at the end of the extra time, Phoenix Rising FC finished off Reno 1868 FC with a 5-4 triumph in the penalty shootout. The win means that Solomon Asante and his teammates are through to the USL Championship Western Conference playoff finals.
