Saka ‘Fishey’ Acquaye Motivated Many Athletes - McDan

Dr Daniel Mckorley of McDan Group has described the late Saka Acquaye also known as ‘Fishey’ as an inspiring motivator and exceptional when it comes to sports organisation and promotion especial with the least financed sports.

He noted that Acquaye was able to rally national sportsmen in women to give off their best in local and international competition and should be honoured by the sports authorities.

He revealed that Saka Acquaye was very instrumental in getting his daughter to play tennis, and now she is among the top female players in Ghana.

The President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Ben Nunoo Mensah who presented 5,000ghc from Dr Mckorley to the deceased family also described the late Deputy Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr Saka Acquaye as a real war leader for Ghana Sports.

According to the GOC President who doubles as boss of Ghana Weightlifting, the late Saka Acquaye was also an encyclopedia of sports whom he often consulted for advise and research.

Speaking at the family house at Kaneshie on Thursday, Ben Nunoo Mensah expressed that Saka Acquaye was one of a kind who was very devoted to his work as a sportsman, coach and administrator, and thanked the family for giving him to serve Ghana Sports.

“In fact, Saka Acquaye was a real patriot for Ghana Sports, we have lost an important personality in sports, who contributed immensely at the GOC and NSA. He changed the lives of many people who gained employment through sports” he stressed.

The GOC President was accompanied by Sammy Heywood Okine Communications Director and Emmanuel OllaWilliams the Youth Coordinator.

Mr Adolf Ankrah, the family spokesman commended the GOC President and Dr Mckorley who is a keen sports enthusiast for the donation.

Mr Dan Saka Acquaye, 58 who passed away on 24th June, 2020 will be buried on Saturday, September 12 at the Mantse Ankrah Royal Mausoleum at Kaneshie, in Accra.
