European-Born Ghanaian Players Eager To Play For Black Stars – CK Akonnor

Ghana coach, CK Akonnor, has revealed that he is working hard to get many European born Ghanaian footballers to play for the Black Stars.

The 46-year-old is his maiden call up introduced some new faces in his 23 man squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in March against.

Recently, the former Asante Kotoko gaffer in a recent interview confirmed that the GFA is in talks with Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah to get him to play for Ghana.

According to the former Asante Kotoko gaffer, he is in constant communication with many others like Nketiah.

“The most important thing is those who were born in Europe,” Akonnor told Accra based Starr FM.

“Some of them are eager to play for the Black Stars.

“That is what we want to do. Look at Nigeria, I think they have done that in a very nice way.

“They have brought a lot of guys who were born in Europe and the Nigerian team is now transformed so we are trying to do the same with the national team,” he concluded.

CK Akonnor is yet to take charge of his first assignment as head coach after the 2021 AFCON qualifiers were postponed due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.
