The youth of James Town (Ngleshie Alata) traditional area in Accra have planned to go on a demonstration on Saturday to make the government, chiefs and elders aware that they need a recreation ground or sports facility.

According to them, the government of the day, NPP has been able to build astro turfs all over, but for them, some chiefs and elders do not want the facility to come on.

The youth said since the project was started at the Manste Agbona, they have no place to play football and other games, so they had to go to the GAMADA premise to share a make shift basketball ball court with other youth to exercise or engage in sports.

They claimed the elders and others are using politics to deprive them of their rights as they can see the construction of another turf at Bukom coming to completion.

The youth said if the astroturf can not be built, then the contractors should put back the sand so that it returns to its previous state for them to play.

They expressed that there are many kids and youth in the area who are talented in sports, and as there are not much businesses and other opportunities, they must be allowed to benefit from their God-given talents in sports.

They have planned the demonstration for Saturday, August 15, 2020, the Homowo festival day which is a big occasion in the calendar of the people of Ga Mashie in Accra, the capital of Ghana.

Meanwhile, the capital can boast of other astro tutf facilities at Madina Zongo, Bukom, Sukura, Dansoman and other communities, and many people say it has beautified the city and would help the citizens to be sanitation conscious.

The facility is supposed to be built with the support of the Coastal Development Agency (CODA).
